This is skilled, creative work in the design and production of graphic arts materials.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Creates the design for publications, promotional and/or classroom materials using personal computer and desktop publishing and other graphic software; produces completed design and type; creates camera ready art on projects.
Creates illustrations and other graphics for materials; produces charts, maps, and graphs; performs necessary photography.
Produces a variety of visual materials including: overhead transparencies, slides, displays and posters. Uses a variety of materials and computer equipment such as color printers, scanners, and film recorder.
Defines printing specifications including: ink color(s), paper stock, binding, and any special effects.
Monitors production process; inspects dyluxs and proofs; inspects publications during press runs; inspects final product before delivery.
Oversees and coordinates the bidding process for outside services or products; obtains necessary outside printing bids.
Advises various users regarding software applications to produce their own graphic designs and images; trains in use; develops written guides for use in training.
Maintains any necessary records on projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and techniques used in commercial art and graphic design.
Knowledge of the methods of combining inks, papers, colors, letter styles and sizes, and various materials used in displays and exhibits in appropriate and effective ways.
Knowledge of computer and desktop publishing/graphics software such as Quark, PageMaker, Illustrator, Freehand, Photoshop, Powerpoint and Persuasion.
Knowledge of off-set press and silk screen production process.
Ability to design and layout attractive and artistic formats for pamphlets, manuals, books, magazines, and other productions.
Ability to use drawing instruments, computers and related graphic software as well as other artistic tools.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to select and make effective use of equipment and supplies, and to promote economical productions of refinished materials.
Education: Associates degree in graphic design, fine art, or related field.
Experience: Two years graphic design experience.
