Indiana University High School

When Zachary Meunier visited Washington, D.C., recently, it wasn’t to take pictures of the Washington Monument or look at cherry blossoms. Instead, the 17-year-old Indiana University High School junior was in the nation’s capital as a participant in one of the country’s leading civic and leadership education programs.

Meunier is determined to become a political campaign specialist. He joined Indiana University High School in 2004, because he didn’t want to relocate to a new school when his dad finished graduate school. In addition, IUHS’s flexible schedule allowed Meunier to clock more than 225 hours as a volunteer for Indiana Congressman Baron Hill in 2006.

When he isn’t working on his courses, Meunier serves as chairman for his church youth group and volunteers for the local library. Currently, he’s looking ahead to college. “I’m more than ‘college prep’ with IUHS,” said Meunier. “I’m college ready.”

“I was able to intern with Congressman Baron Hill’s campaign last fall. If I had been in a traditional school, it would have been near impossible.”
