Mr. Steven C. Beering, Steve M.D. serves as the President Emeritus of Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. Dr. Beering served as the President of Purdue University from 1983 to 2000. Dr. Beering served as Dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine and Director of the Indiana University Medical Center from 1974 to 1983. He has been the Chairman of National Science Board since 2006 and as its Director since 2002 as well as an Independent Director of NiSource Inc. since 1986. He serves as a Director of American United Life Insurance Company.

He served as a Director of Eli Lilly & Co. from 1983 to April 18, 2005. He served as a Director of Arvin Industries Inc., since 1983 and Northern Indiana Public Service Company, Inc. since 1986. Dr. Beering served as a Director of Veridian Corporation. He was a Trustee of the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Beering's years of experience as president of a major research university and his current role as chairman of the National Science Board provide him with valuable expertise regarding the technical issues facing it, as well as the challenges of managing a large institution. As a result of his years of utility board service, Dr. Beering also has a deep understanding of the energy industry generally, the specific service territory and the particular issues.

He has been Chairman of the Purdue Research Foundation since 2000. Dr. Beering was Chairman of the Association of American Universities, a member of the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine, and serves on Governing Board of the National Science Foundation. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Royal Society of Medicine. Dr. Beering holds B.S. and M.D. from University of Pittsburgh in 1954 and 1958, respectively.
