BIOGRAPHY
Scott R. Sernau earned his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1991 and he joined the Indiana University at South Bend faculty as an Associate Professor of Sociology. His courses consist of subjects on social inequality, international inequalities, social problems, Mexican culture and society, urban society, race and ethnic relations, and sociology of the family. His teaching has received a number of awards including the Indiana University South Bend Distinguished Teaching Award, and the Sylvia Bowman Award for Distinguished Teaching. He is the author of several books including Economics of Exclusion: Underclass Poverty and Labor Market Changes in Mexico. He also edited the ASA Teaching Resources Guide: Social Stratification Courses: Syllabi and Instructional Materials.
