BIOGRAPHY
Tatiana Foroud received a B.S. in Biology and Mathematics from Fairfield University in 1987, a M.S. in biomathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1989 and a Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1994. Upon completing her doctoral degree, Professor Foroud immediately joined the faculty at Indiana University in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics. She became director of the Division of Hereditary Genomics in 2003 and was appointed the first P. Michael Conneally Professor of Medical and Molecular Genetics in 2005. She was awarded Chancellor's Professor in 2008.
Professor Foroud's NIH funded research focuses on the identification of genes that increase the risk for common diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, bipolar disorder, alcoholism, osteoporosis, primary pulmonary hypertension and familial intracranial aneurysm. More recently, as genes contributing to these disorders have been identified, her research has also encompassed understanding the penetrance of identified mutations as well as a search for genes which modify the effect of known disease susceptibility genes.
