The Board of Trustees of Indiana University urges students to become part of the history of IU by applying to serve as student trustee.
One of the nine Trustees of Indiana University is selected from among full-time IU students. The student trustee is a fully vested member of the board with all rights, responsibilities, and privileges accorded to all trustees. The student trustee participates in at least six board meetings a year, serves on board committees, takes part in various university functions and ceremonies, and completes any assigned projects.
The student trustee is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to shape the future of Indiana University and work closely with IU's leadership. Former student trustees have gone on to careers in medicine, law, business, and higher education.
Interested students submit an application, a search committee selects applicants to interview, and the governor of Indiana chooses the new trustee from 10 finalists identified by the committee. The student trustee serves a two-year term. Any student, undergraduate or graduate, from any campus, may apply. Members of the Board of Trustees do not receive compensation, although they are paid a small per diem when fulfilling their responsibilities, and all expenses are covered. The application process for the 2013-2015 term have closed. Applications for the 2015-2017 will be available in the fall of 2016.
