SPSS 17.0 Installation for Windows

1. Log on to your computer with administrator privileges. Place the SPSS CD in the CD-Rom drive. If installation does not start, choose Run from the Start menu and type D:\setup.exe (replace D with the appropriate drive location), or use Windows Explorer, browse to the CD-ROM, double-click setup.exe at the root of the CD.

2. The installation starts, it may take several minutes to the next step.

3. If you see this message, click Yes to All. Otherwise, go to step 4.

4. If you see this message, click OK. Otherwise, go to step 5.

5. Choose the Single user License radio button and click Next. The other two choices will cause license errors.

6. Choose I accept the terms in the license agreement radio button, and click Next.

7. Click Next.

8. Enter user name, organization and serial number in the boxes provided and click Next.

9.1 If you need to install SPSS 17 to a particular location, click the Change button and type the path of the SPSS 17 installation folder and click OK. Otherwise, click Next and go to Step 10. (By default, SPSS will be installed in the folder C:\Program Files\SPSSInc\PASWStatistics17\).

9.2 After you change the path of the SPSS 17 folder, click OK to go back to the previous wizard window, click Next, and go to step 8.

10. Click Install to install the program.

11. Installation will begin.



License Authorization

12. The InstallShield Wizard now completed SPSS installation. It is time to get the license code from SPSS Inc. If you wish to register now, make sure the Register with spss.com is checked and then click OK. If not, de-select the Register with spss.com and then click OK.

13. Check the License my product now (recommended) button and click Next to apply the license.


14. Type in the authorization code found on the back of the SPSS CD sleeve and click Next.


15. If you enter the correct authorization code, you will see the screen below. Then click Next .


16. When the licensing is completed, click Finish to exit.


Check Your License

After installation and license authorization, you need to double-check if your SPSS is licensed correctly.

17.1 Start SPSS 17, Click Cancel

17.2 In SPSS Data Editor window, make sure you see PASW Statistics Processor is ready on the very buttom.

17.3 To check your license expiration date, use File -> New -> Syntax to open SPSS Syntax Editor

17.4 In SPSS Syntax Editor type in show lic. Do not omit the period at the end of the command.

17.5 Use Run -> All to run the command

17.6 The license information is shown in SPSS Viewer window. Note: Although the expiration date shown is 01-AUG, there is a 30 days grace. The actual expiration date is 31-AUG.

If you have this output above, you are ready to use SPSS.
