Sergio Fernandez

Professor Fernandez has research interests in the areas of privatization, organizational change, and leadership. His privatization research focuses on performance in contracting for services, the impact of contracting out on the size of the public work force, and public employee opposition to privatization. Professor Fernandez’s research on organizational change looks at the role of public managers in the adoption and implementation of change and innovation. His dissertation was awarded the Leonard D. White Award by the American Political Science Association, the Best Dissertation Award by the Public and Nonprofit Division of the Academy of Management, and the Best Dissertation Award by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration. Professor Fernandez also is a two-time winner of the Herbert Kaufman Award from the American Political Science Association (2004 and 2006). He teaches courses in public management, organization theory, and organizational behavior.
