Academic Eligibility for Non-Elective Internship Credit

To receive internship credit, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. You must be admitted to SPEA (students interested in elective internship credit may refer to the "Guidelines for Submitting Internship Documentation").

  2. You must have taken the class component of BE252, V252 (Environmental Science majors are exempt from this requirement).

  3. You must possess a SPEA core/major GPA of 2.3 regardless of SPEA credit hours obtained and a cumulative GPA of 2.0.

  4. You must have at least sophomore class standing.

Guidelines for Submitting Internship Documentation

You must follow these steps for submitting required internship documentation:

  1. Before you begin your internship, complete the SPEA Internship Contract. To access this form, you must use your IU username and password. This form must be approved by the Office of Career Services before you can begin logging hours at your internship site.

  2. Please contact Megan Clough Groshek (mclough@indiana.edu) if you wish to pursue elective credits. Keep in mind that elective credits must be taken during the semester you are interning and will be charged to that semester’s bursar if your internship is approved. Elective internship credits must be stated at the beginning of your internship and cannot be added or increased at a later date. Please refer to the Internship Checklist for more specific instructions.

  3. Prior to the final week of your internship remind your supervisor to submit the Supervisor Evaluation Form online.

  4. During the last week of your internship, complete the online Internship Summary Report . To access this form, you must use your IU username and password. When your Summary Report has been successfully submitted, you will see a page that says "Form Confirmation". Print a copy of this page for your records. You are responsible for saving all paperwork and email correspondence. Thus, if there is no documentation from you or the Office of Career Services no appeal will be heard.

SPEA does not award credit for internship hours completed BEFORE a SPEA internship contract has been submitted and approved. The maximum number of internship contact hours that can be accumulated and counted for credit during one week is 40 hours. SPEA does not recognize or give credit for any hours accumulated beyond 40 over any one-week period.

Please contact the Office of Career Services, (812) 855-9639, speacare@indiana.edu, if you have questions regarding the internship process.
