ARTS REQUIREMENT ~ 24 credit hours

Students are to select an area of arts specialization consisting of a minimum of 12 credit hours in one arts specialty. The remaining credit hours can be applied to any arts areas of the students choosing. Suggested areas of specialization include: Anthropology, Art History, Dance, folklore and Ethnomusicology, Music, Studio Fine Art, and Theater. Other proposed areas of arts interest will be considered by the faculty. At least 12 credit hours of the 24 Arts Core required credits should be in advanced level work (300 level or higher).

(register for SPEA-BE 252)

Each student is required to complete an internship experience. Internship projects give students an excellent opportunity to apply classroom theory and techniques to real-life experiences. Students should register for SPEA-BE 252 the first semester they are accepted into the program. Students must be in good academic standing and file an internship contract with Career Services before starting internship.

STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES

Indiana University Bloomington offers study abroad opportunities in 80 overseas programs, in 37 countries, in 17 languages (including English), and in nearly every field of study. Interested students should contact the Office of Overseas Studies at http://www.indiana.edu/~overseas/. Students accepted to an overseas study program will work with their SPEA academic advisor and the Office of Overseas Study to carefully plan the course work to take while abroad to maintain progress towards degree completion requirements. Credit for pre-approved courses can be applied to electives, general education, arts core and up to two SPEA major or core requirements for the Bachelors of Science in Arts Management Degree.

MINIMUM HOURS AND GRADE POINT AVERAGES


The B.S. in Arts Management Degree requires a minimum of 120 hours. Each student must maintain a 2.7 (B-) overall grade point average in the core and major requirements as well as a 2.3 (C+) cumulative grade point average in all course work taken at Indiana University in order to graduate.

ADMISSION INFORMATION

SPEA requires students applying to its undergraduate programs to have completed 26 credit hours and a maximum of 75 credit hours. Students are required to complete the introductory course *SPEA-A 163 and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B). Students should apply for admission when they are enrolled in the preadmissions course.

It is a competitive admission process. Admission decisions are based on the cumulative GPA, grade trends, and application statement. Application deadlines are May 1 for fall admission and December 1 for spring admissions. Applications for this program are available on the Web at https://www.indiana.edu/~speaweb/undergradapp.html.

*Students applying to the program before this course’s development will be expected to take the course prior to graduation to complete degree requirements.
