2018 Palmer-Brandon Scholarship in the Humanities

Five Spanish Majors have been awarded a prestigious Palmer-Brandon Scholarship in the Humanities, which recognizes students who are in the top 1 percent of undergraduates in their fields in terms of academic achievement, intellectual ability, and demonstrated commitment to the humanities: 

Zoe King (BA Hispanic Studies, Sociology, and Political Science. Minor in Psychology)
Mark Bond (BA Hispanic Literature and International Studies)
Mary Lechner (BA Hispanic Studies and Sociology. Minor in Political Science)
Kaitlynn Milvert (BA in Hispanic Literature and English.  Minor in Portuguese)
Sophia Muston (BA in Hispanic Studies and Journalism. Minor in German)


2018 Senior Recognition Awards

The following graduating seniors in Spanish have been recipients of a Senior Recognition Award this academic year:

Herman B Wells Senior Award, which honors one outstanding senior who has excelled academically and is an established leader within the IU community:

Kate Hevner Mueller Award, which honors IU seniors who have proven leadership on campus both inside and outside of the classroom and who have improved the IU community by their presence:

Susan Butler Award, which honors a graduating senior woman for outstanding scholarship and character:

IU center brings immersive technology into classroom.

Kaitlynn Milvert is a sophomore majoring in Spanish and English. Milvert, like both Ehrmann and Triebold is a Wells Scholar. She said she is ecstatic to be working on this project with the other interns and McRobbie. “I am incredibly excited about this opportunity to contribute to such a wide-ranging historical research project,” Milvert said in the release. “It goes beyond researching ancient civilizations in its attempt to understand the tradition of the university in a new, more expansive context.”

Professor Ryan Giles has been selected winner of the John K. Walsh Award by the Executive Committee of the Modern Language Association Forum, LLC Medieval Iberian, for his article, “Garden Spaces and Textual Materialities: The Exorcistic Prelude to the Razón de amor. The award honors the memory of revered American Hispanomedievalist John K. Walsh (1939-1990). The prize was awarded at the MLA convention in Philadelphia on January 7, 2017.

Undergraduate Spanish major and recent IU graduate, Rachel Geissler (BA ’13, Spanish and Anthropology) was awarded a prestigious Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Mexico for 2013-2014.
