What is Rotaract?

  • Rotaract is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, international program of Rotary International for students and young professionals ages 18 to 30 who want to make a difference.
  • With more than 7,600 Rotaract clubs in some 158 countries, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon.
  • Rotaract clubs conduct monthly meetings as well as numerous service projects, social events, and workshops.
  • Rotaractors work hard, but they believe in having a good time. They hold barbecues, car rallies, camping trips, dances, cultural events, and more!

Rotaract Activities

COMMUNITY SERVICE:Rotaractors carry out community service projects that improve the lives of people around them. The IU Rotaract Club volunteers at Teacher’s Warehouse, a local project organized by the Bloomington Rotary Club that provides school supplies for area teachers. They have also volunteered for the Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Pages for Prisoners, and cultural events.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE:Rotaractors learn more about other cultures by performing at least one international service project each year. The IU Rotaract Club will be performing international service through the Wheel Chair Foundation and other organizations. Other Rotaract Clubs have helped children at home and abroad by adopting an orphanage in Haiti and a soup kitchen in East Harlem, New York, USA. Rotaractors helped build a library for the Haitian orphans, stocked it with 700 books, and raised funds for clothes and toys. They also held events and outings for children at the soup kitchen.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT:Rotaract builds leaders, and leaders build strong clubs with effective programs. In this spirit, IU Rotaract hosted an etiquette dinner last spring at the Indiana Memorial Union. The dinner was led by IU trustee Sue Talbot and attended by Rotarians as well as Rotaractors. This fall the IU Rotaract Club will be hosting an etiquette mocktail.
