2009 Football Season Opener
IU kicked off its 125th year of football, debuting the new Memorial Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009. After two years of construction, the North End Zone Student-Athlete Development Center opened for both football and administrative personnel. At the heart of this new structure is the largest strength and conditioning center in the country, and a 25,000-square-foot area located at field level providing student-athletes in every varsity sport with access to brand new weight training and cardio equipment. The new space also features new offices, position and staff meeting rooms, and a team auditorium each equipped with state-of-the-art technology. IU’s Henke Hall of Champions celebrates Hoosier greats from all sports and is located on the top level of the North End Zone Student-Athlete Development Center. It features museum-quality displays and a large banquet area where Hoosier fans can gather to celebrate the past, present and future of IU Athletics. Move-In Day/Freshman Induction 2009
For many Indiana University students, New Student Move-In Day marks the first step in becoming part of IU’s renowned tradition and truly feeling what it means to be a Hoosier. With fall classes still a few days away, Move-In Day 2009, which marked the beginning of Welcome Week, offered a chance for IU’s newest students to get settled and become acquainted with new friends. Among those on hand to greet students and their parents were IU President Michael McRobbie and Provost Karen Hanson, who later that day presided over the official Freshman Induction ceremonies in the IU Auditorium. View highlights from Freshman Induction and Move-In Day, two of IU’s most highly anticipated, beginning-of-the-year activities.

Hutton Honors College Dedication
The April 8 dedication for Indiana University's new Hutton Honors College happened as planned—but sadly, without the presence of IU alumnus Ed Hutton, longtime friend of the university for whom the Honors College is named, and whose support made the new $3.5 million building possible. Hutton passed away on March 2 in Cincinnati.

Watch the early afternoon ceremony, titled “Celebration of Edward L. Hutton and the New Home of Hutton Honors College,” which took place in Whittenberger Auditorium at the Indiana Memorial Union.

2009 Honors Convocation
Indiana University Bloomington has begun honoring high-achieving undergraduate students with a new award that salutes sustained academic excellence. Students who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher are designated as “Founders Scholars,” a new tradition begun at IU Bloomington’s Honors Convocation on March 29. View the Honors Convocation and other activities that took place during Founders Day, the annual celebration of IU’s founding in 1820.

In addition to presenting the new award, IU President Michael A. McRobbie presented Indiana University President Emeritus Myles Brand with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Brand served as the university’s president from 1994 to 2002 and since January 2003 has been president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
