About Us
The Office of the Vice President for Public Affairs and Government Relations comprises six units that combine their talents to support IU’s communications and marketing efforts:
From creating IU Web sites, news releases, promotional print materials, and e-newsletters to statewide marketing efforts, we serve IU’s eight campuses and their surrounding communities, fostering university-wide communications and acting as a liaison between the university, the community, federal and state governements, and news media.
Office of Community Relations
Community Relations is a liaison with campus and community leaders responsible for developing and implementing annual strategic plans that outline IU’s goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics for community relations. Community Relations handles the university’s crisis communications efforts; oversees the annual, campus-wide United Way campaign; bridges the gap between campus and community on such initiatives as employee training and job development programs; works with local government on mutually beneficial initiatives; and works with area school districts that surround each of IU’s eight campuses.
Office of Creative Services
Creative Services acts as an advertising agency for IU’s eight campuses, leading the creation, application, and assessment of marketing and communications products that support IU’s mission. This office brings marketing plans to life through innovative and effective publications ranging from brochures and bulletins to Web sites and podcasts. Through research and focus groups, Creative Services helps our clients throughout the university to reach their target audiences. Services include research, art direction and design, editing and writing, Web site creation, coordination of photography and illustration, and production coordination.
Office of Finance and Administration
The chief financial officer for the Office of the Vice President for Public Affairs and Government Relations oversees budgetary and administrative operations for all Public Affairs and Government Relations units, including all business planning, financial, accounting, and internal and external business activities. This office enables all Public Affairs and Government Relations operational units to effectively and efficiently achieve their missions through best-in-class human resource management, financial, and administrative systems support and advocacy, while ensuring compliance with university and governmental policy and regulation.
Office of Government Relations
Government Relations advances the strategic interests of Indiana University and all eight campuses among national and state elected officials, their staff members, constituents, and with governmental agencies at all levels. The office focuses on appropriations, strategic planning, legislative and regulatory affairs, and grass roots advocacy through its four groups: State Relations, Federal Relations, Legislative and Policy Analysis, and Hoosiers for Higher Education.
Office of University Communications
University Communications is the source for the university’s official statements, responsible for developing and maintaining productive working relationships with key media throughout the world. University Communications issues news releases, conducts news conferences, handles media inquiries, and produces tip sheets and media advisories. It also produces four e-newsletters, including the university's main news site, and publishes IU Home Pages, an internal newsletter for IU’s eight campuses.
Office of University Marketing
University Marketing enhances the university’s image by developing, implementing, coordinating, and assessing marketing strategies and plans for Indiana University and specific clients as assigned by IU’s vice president for university relations. University Marketing enhances and guides the image of IU by providing research, strategy, and strategic planning support. It builds partnerships for both funding and execution of university-wide plans and development of policy relating to marketing.
