At the annual Indiana State Medical Society meeting, a scientific paper identified tobacco as a serious health threat and theorized a connection to cancer, in 1881.
A bronze statue of composer Hoagy Carmichael will be making a tour of Hoosier towns this summer following its unveiling at the Indy Jazz Fest in June. Carmichael, who recorded the first version of his timeless “Stardust” 80 years ago, composed the piece a half-block away from where the statue will eventually stand: in People’s Park on Kirkwood Avenue, Bloomington. http://www.hoagysculpture.com
