Indiana University Libraries Faculty Council (IULFC)
Presiding Officer: Dean Suzanne Thorin
Present members: Polly Boruff-Jones (Secretary), Rebecca Cape, Julie Elliottt, Susan London, Suzanne Mudge, Jacob Nadal, William Orme, Frank Quinn
Absent (excused): Kirby Cheng
1. Edits for February meeting minutes were noted - minutes were approved as amended.
2. Faculty Standards Committee report
- Three documents regarding a Mentor Program and Committee were distributed to IULFC members for review. Questions centered on the Mentor Program Committee document and whether an election is necessary to form and/or select a Mentor Committee. The Secretary, Boruff-Jones, will contact the Faculty Standards Committee Chair, Elizabeth Johnson, to clarify the wording and issues in question.
- If necessary, Orme offered to work with the Secretary to edit the current Mentor Program Committee document to specify the IULFC role in creating and appointing a Mentor Committee.
- The Committee found exact duplication of text in the Libraries Faculty Handbook on pages 20-23 and 75-79. The Committee made the appropriate changes to eliminate the duplication, but no documentation was available for review at the time of the IULFC meeting; the Committee will follow up for IULFC approval via email or at the next IULFC meeting.
3. Dean's report from Council of Head Librarians (CHL) meeting:
- CHL held the June meeting at IU Northwest
- Lynn Hufford reported on recent JSTOR releases
- IU Southeast will begin issuing borrowers' cards to residents of Kentucky
- The library presence in the new OncourseCL was discussed; there has been little progress in this area, but librarians are working with the faculty OncourseCL Committee.
- Orme announced that he has been assigned to the OncourseCL Priorities Committee.
4. IULFC elections for representatives and alternates to IULFC have been completed for Indianapolis and the Regional Campuses; Bloomington will hold an election later this summer. All campuses have elected representatives and alternates to the IULFC Faculty Review Board.
IULFC members were polled regarding their thoughts on a time frame for archiving election ballots - a two-year archiving period was suggested. The Secretary will contact Phil Bantin in the University Archives regarding ballot archiving.
5. IULFC committee appointments are on track; Bloomington and Indianapolis libraries have submitted nominees for committee vacancies and names from the Regional Campuses will be submitted shortly.
6. Julie Elliott, IU South Bend offered to serve as IULFC Secretary for 2005-06. (Thank you Julie! :D)
Meeting adjourned.
