2007-2008 Program & Social Committee Annual Report

May 21, 2008

This committee shall organize at least one program of interest to the members. It may also organize a fund-raising event to support the InULA Research Incentive Fund.

Our budget was $3000.

December Holiday Luncheon: The InULA Program and Social Committee planned for the annual holiday luncheon at the Tudor Room. The lunch occurred in the Tudor Room in the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) on the Bloomington Campus on December 14, 2007 from 11:30am-12:30pm. The program, accompanied by dessert and coffee, followed in the Maple Room of the IMU from 12:30-1:30pm. For the program we invited Michelle Dalmau, Digital Projects and Usability Librarian, Digital Library Program, IUB, and Angela Courtney, Librarian for English and American Literature, Film Studies, Philosophy, and Theater and Drama, IUB, to speak about their trip to Victoria, British Columbia in Canada for the Digital Humanities Summer Institute. 36 members and 3 guests attended the lunch and the talk. Door prizes were presented to lunch attendees.

Spring InULA Program: For the InULA Spring Program, Tony White, Head of the Fine Arts Library at IUB, was invited to give a talk on the Fine Arts Library's Artists' Books Collection. He presented the collection at the Bloomington campus in the School of Fine Arts and a coffee and cookies reception followed at the Angles Cafe in the IU Art Museum. The presentation and reception occurred on Friday, May 16, 2008 from 1:00-2:30pm and was attended by 16 members and 4 guests.

Spring Business Meeting, May 21, 2008, 1:30-3:30pm: The meeting was scheduled to occur at the Wells Library on the IUB campus. A conference call was arranged for this meeting to encourage members to attend who could not be at the Wells Library. The theme for the meeting was "Hats Off to InULA!" Attendees were invited to wear hats to the meeting and the current InULA Board chose 3 hat-wearing winners to receive prizes for their hats. Candy was provided.

Group Outings, Summer and Fall 2008: Lunches, happy hours, and other visits to campus cities around the state are being planned for about once a month through the summer to foster more activity among the members of InULA and to give a chance for librarians and other IU staff who are not InULA members to learn about and possibly join the organization.

Annual Holiday Luncheon, December 2008: A reservation was made for the Coronation Room in the Tudor Room, IMU, for Friday, December 12, 11:30am-1:30pm. Email confirmation of the reservation from the Tudor Room manager, Joshua York, was forwarded to the incoming InULA President, Dina Kellams.
