Welcome, Class of 2016. We are delighted you are joining Indiana University’s vibrant community of scholars, and we are pleased to invite you and your families to attend a special event that marks the official beginning of your academic career at IU.

The Freshman Induction Ceremony is a key component of the first day of Welcome Week on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Along with two other important events—the annual IU Bloomington Honors Convocation and Commencement—it is a celebration of your academic aspiration and success.

Like all great universities, IU conducts ceremonies such as this with fanfare and pageantry. There will be music and brief remarks by President McRobbie, Provost Robel, and the president of the Indiana University Student Association. You will be invited to repeat the Indiana Promise, and you will receive a keepsake IU pin. After the ceremony, there will be a picnic on the grounds of nearby Woodburn Hall.

Freshman Induction takes place in the beautiful IU Auditorium in the heart of campus and lasts about 45 minutes. There are no tickets, but reservations are required.

We look forward to seeing you on August 15!

The Indiana Promise

I promise that:

I will be ethical in my academic work.
I will take personal responsibility for what I say and what I do.
I will respect the dignity of others, treating them with civility and understanding.
