PEO Scholar Award Opportunity

The Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) Scholars Grant Opportunity: The P.E.O. sisterhood offers a $15,000 grant, the P.E.O. Scholar Award, to top women doctoral students nearing completion of their degree programs. P.E.O. Scholar Awards are one-time, competitive, merit-based awards for women of the United States and Canada who are pursuing a doctoral level degree at an accredited college or university. In addition to recognizing and encouraging excellence in higher education, these awards provide partial support for study and research for women who will make significant contributions in their varied fields of endeavor. Priority is given to women who are well established in their field of study.

The P.E.O. sisterhood would like to invite each college/school at Indiana University to nominate one outstanding scholar who meets the requirements listed below. The chapter will then meet the women, and nominate the top students. Schools should forward a CV of each candidate to Beth Moellers at by Monday, Oct. 24. Beth would be pleased to answer questions by phone at 812-272-0268.

A woman is eligible for nomination by a local P.E.O. chapter if she:
• is a citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S. or Canada at the time of her nomination;
• at a minimum, has a bachelor’s degree;
• is within two years of her graduation date and has at least one full academic year of work remaining to complete her doctoral level degree at the time the award payment is made (August 1). Those in a combined degree program (e.g., those pursuing both an J.D. and a Ph.D.) must be within two years of completing the entire program;
• is enrolled in her program at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university. Study abroad is permitted provided the student is enrolled in a U.S. or Canadian postsecondary institution.
• is enrolled part-time at the time of nomination, provided she is enrolled full-time during the year of the award

A woman is not eligible for Scholar Awards support for a:
• master’s degree
• certificate program
• residency, fellowship, specialization, postdoctoral research, etc.
