Job Opening - Assistant Professorship, Department of Religious Studies - Missouri State University

MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY, Department of Religious Studies, anticipates an August 2017 opening for an assistant professor specializing in Islam, tenure eligible. Candidates are required to have the Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a related field completed by August 1, 2018, and must demonstrate successful experience in teaching and strong potential in research. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and M.A. courses in Islam and will regularly teach the department’s world religions survey course. The candidate should be able to engage Islamic texts and traditions from both historical and contemporary perspectives. Candidates should be interested in engaging broad intellectual questions and be familiar with issues and approaches in the academic study of religion. Additionally, they must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations and to integrating multicultural issues into their courses.
