Matthew Stanard
Matthew Stanard, who received his Ph.D. in modern European history at Indiana University in 2006, accepted a tenure-track position at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.
Working with the late William B. Cohen and then James D. Le Sueur (University of Nebraska-Lincoln), Stanard wrote the dissertation "Selling the Tenth Province: Belgian Colonial Propaganda 1908-1960." His dissertation research examined pro-colonial propaganda to reconsider which Belgian persons and groups were most interested in overseas expansion during the "New Imperialism" from 1870 to 1960.
At Berry College, Stanard will be responsible for teaching 19th and 20th Century European History, both halves of the World History survey, African History, and a course on Imperialism, Colonialism, and Nationalism. Fortunately the diversity of courses and teaching experiences Stanard had at Indiana prepared him for this hefty challenge. Stanard has been a Belgian American Educational Foundation Fellow, a Future Faculty Teaching Fellow at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and a Chancellor's Fellow at Indiana University-Bloomington.
