The aspect of the PFF program that helped me the most was the Job Talk Workshop. When I went on the job market, it was invaluable to have a research talk prepared, one that I had practiced and was comfortable delivering. Faculty and fellow graduate students suggested ways to structure the talk so that it began with a narrative 'hook' and ended by pointing to the broader historiography in ways that would engage historians from a range of fields. Questions from students and faculty at my practice talk were among the most difficult I've ever received, raising issues that I'm continuing to think about as I revise my manuscript.
