Jennifer HartJennifer Hart, a first year graduate student in African History, has received a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship from Indiana University's Center for African Studies to study Advanced Twi during the 2006-2007 academic year.

Academic year and summer FLAS Fellowships have also provided her with funding to study Twi through classes during the past academic year, as well as at the Summer Cooperative African Languages Institute (SCALI) held at IU during the summer of 2006. Her research focuses on Christianity, gender, and trade in Ghana, a West African country where Twi is the most widely spoken language. The FLAS Fellowship provides her with funding and enables her to continue her study of Twi, which will both fulfill a language requirement and enable her to carry out interviews and communicate with most Ghanaians in the area of the country that she is interested in as a part of her research.
