Assistant Professor of Chinese History

The Department of History at Indiana University is searching for a tenure-track assistant professor of China prior to the nineteenth century. Applicants should hold the Ph.D. or anticipate its completion by the time of the appointment and must demonstrate an active and creative research program. All subfield specializations are highly encouraged to apply; those exploring the history of the environment, transregional flows, or networks of intellectual, economic, or material exchange will be considered with particular interest. Teaching duties will include undergraduate surveys and upper level lecture and seminar courses as well as graduate training. We are looking for dynamic candidates interested in contributing to and taking advantage of our many related units and affiliations, including the East Asian Languages and Cultures Dept., East Asian Studies Center, Central Eurasian Studies Dept., the Pan-Asia Institute, and colleagues across the Asia field. Assistant Professor in Middle East History

The Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Middle East History. Ph.D. or equivalent required. The successful applicant must demonstrate an excellent research record in any region or period of the Middle East; effective teaching, including the ability to teach the history of the modern Middle East; and an active professional profile. Teaching obligations will extend from introductory undergraduate courses to more specialized upper-level undergraduate courses and graduate training in the applicant’s own area of research expertise. Visiting Assistant Professor/Assistant Editor

The History Department of Indiana University and the Journal of American History seek a visiting assistant professor/assistant editor for a 2-year, non-tenure-track appointment beginning August 1, 2012. Ph.D. in history required. Specialization open. The position includes halftime teaching in the department and halftime work as an Assistant Editor at the JAH whose main responsibility will be managing the book reviews.
