Tim Rich
Ph.D. student in Political Science
Political science doctoral student Tim Rich exemplifies the high quality of scholarship and globally-directed service supported by the EASC. Tim, whose research focuses on Taiwanese politics, cross-strait relations, and U.S.–China relations, has acted as an observer at a Taiwanese mayoral election and met Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian. In addition to building his own publication profile, he has helped form a peer group to encourage other graduate students in his department to present and publish early and often. Recently, Tim taught a continuing studies course sponsored by the EASC, “Emerging Issues in China,” which tracked the foreign and domestic policy implications of China’s rise as a political and economic superpower. Through Tim’s efforts with this course, the center was able to connect many nontraditional students in the local community to knowledge about contemporary East Asia.
