National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) 2010 Seminar Sites
Every year EASC coordinates semester-long NCTA Teaching about Asia seminars throughout the Midwest and South, taught by regional faculty. Generously funded by the Freeman Foundation, these seminars are designed to help teachers become more knowledgeable about East Asia and to pass that knowledge on to their students. Texts are free for all participants, and school resources and stipends are provided to those who successfully complete the seminar. Teaching about Asia seminars will be held in the following locations this year:

Richmond, KY
South Bend, IN

National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) 2010 Study Tour
EASC will be leading an NCTA study tour to China in the summer of 2010 for NCTA seminar alumni in Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Louisiana. The study tour will be led by Qiong Jiang (EASC Outreach Coordinator), John Frank (a history teacher at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, IN), a faculty member specializing in China (TBN), and Cathy Gao (EASC Outreach Assistant). Participants will visit schools and historical sites during their three-week stay in China. Geography and History of the World Workshops in Indiana
Standard 7: Conflict and Cooperation
To help prepare Indiana high school teachers for the Geography and History of the World state standards, EASC and IU’s Center for Social Studies and International Education, along with four other IU area studies centers (African Studies Program, Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center, and Russian and East European Institute), are holding workshops that provide geography and history content and help teachers with course development on each of the standards. This fall’s workshops will focus on Standard 7—Conflict and Cooperation and will be held on the following dates:
