- Program Abstract: Raku Ceramics is an art rooted in 16th century Japan. It has emerged in America as vivacious and thoroughly contemporary art form. As practiced in the West today, Raku is the most forgiving art that invited experimentation, yet by its very nature, has preserved much of its old philosophical content.

Jim Romberg is an artist of world stature. He has lived and taught in Idaho, New York, California, Paris, New Mexico, Texas, and now heads the Cermics Program at Southern Oregon State College. His work is exhibited nationwide and internationally. He has written extensively on the technical and philosophical aspects of Raku, and is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics; a book about Jim Romberg and his art has been published in English, French, and German. - Data Entry Date: 2/2/2005
