- Program Abstract: "Ryoma Sakamoto approaches the Choshu clan with an unexpected proposal, the Satsuma-Choshu alliance. If these two powerful clans cooperate, they will be able to defeat the Shogunate. The problem, however, is that they do not get along with each other. Still, Katsura, accompanied by Zoroku, accepts the offer and heads for the talks, but they learn that Takamori Saigo, the leader of the Satsuma clan, is absent due to urgent business. When the talks begin to turn sour, Ryoma offers just what the Choshu side wants—that Satsuma will buy modern guns and sell them to Choshu. Thus begins the Satsuma-Choshu alliance, formed out of the utility of this trade. Meanwhile, the Shogunate's troops make inroads on Choshu. Due to the successful tactics of Masujiro Oomura (Zoroku Murata), who maneuvers sophisticated weaponry and large and small groups of forces, as well as the brave naval forces led by Shinsaku, the Choshu side puts the enemy to rout. Shinsaku, however, falls ill and dies as a young man of twenty seven."
