- Program Abstract: "Kogoro Katsura and his fellow disciples receive the corpse of their executed teacher, Shoin (Torajiro) Yoshida at the Kaikoin Temple in Ozukahara. On the same day, at the same temple, Zoroku Murata is having a human body dissected. By chance witnessing Zoroku performing the autopsy, Katsura feels that their encounter is destined and decides to recruit him into the Choice clan. At the Balkan Channel, the Choshu clan fires at an American commercial ship and a French military ship which marks the beginning of the movement to expel foreigners. Eventually, the Choshu navy is completely destroyed by counter-attacks from the U.S. and France. Shinsaku Takasugi is called upon by the lord of the Choshu clan and is charged with resolving the crisis. Shinsaku forms the Kihei-tai corps, which is independent from the clan and based on the equality of all people. The Kihei-tai rapidly gains members and became a new power for the Choshu clan."
