- Program Abstract: "In a society where getting into the right school is everything, what do parents do when a son is skipping classes, flunking tests and moving nowhere fast? Shigeyuki's parents have bribed him with everything that money can buy--tutors, toys, treats--yet the boy still won't study. He's the classic problem teen: bright, handsome, and devoid of ambition. What's fine, upstanding, respectable Japanese family to do? Hire help from the other side of the tracks, where money still talks! Yoshimoto--a poor but cantankerous college student, someone they 'd otherwise never let through their door--is their solution. A deal is struck: Yoshimoto will receive 10,000 yen for every point Shigeyuki's class rank improves. Unleashed, Yoshimoto acts like Godzilla, Karl Marx and a marine sergeant all rolled into one. He is waging class war on his natural enemies for the best possilbe incentive: profit! This insipid family will never know what hit them. Irreverent, surreal and unpredicatable, The Family Game pokes fun at contemporary Japanese ideals--educational achievement, high technology, urban gentility--while focusing on the universal problem of the unmotivated teen."
