- Program Abstract: For more than a year Producer Bruce Bassett followed Noguchi around the world filming his global ventures, Isamu tells his story from childhood. Isamu was two when his Caucasian- American mother brought him to Japan from California to live with his Japanese poet father. Although in a few years she separated from his father, she kept Isamu in Japan for a decade before sending him back to America for his high school education.
Six years later his mother returned from Japan. They lived together in New York City. She suggested a neighborhood art school. It launched his career as a sculptor. He went to Paris and an apprenticeship with Brancusi. Then he returned to Japan and a reunion with his father.
Isamu Noguchi concludes, "I have this special interest in sculpture as it relates to the human urge to make something significant which raises man to a larger place in the universe.
