- Program Abstract: Recreating the tumultuous of the Soong sisters, this Hong Kong film shot on location in China brings alive an important page in modern Chinese history. Born to a wealthy Nationalist and educated in the U.S., the girls return to China and the political spotlight. Ai-ling (Michelle Yeoh) marries a banker, Ching-ling (Maggie Cheung) marries Sun Yat-sen, a revolutionary and the first provisional president of the Republic of China, and Mei-ling (Vivian Wu) marries Chiang Kai-shek, Sun's hot-tempered protégé. Censored by Chinese authorities, the film was cut by more than 18 minutes.
