- Program Abstract: Over the past few years, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts has acquired one of the world's pre-eminent collections of traditional Chinese furniture. When it came time to display this exquisite collection, Robert Jacobsen, curator of Asian Art, wondered if he could acquire some traditional Chinese rooms. Finally, the furniture is in place in an appropriate context. Dr. Jacobsen leads us on a tour of the reception hall, library and rock garden and tells of the lifestyle of the typical occupant of such a residence. "These guys obviously lived in a very rich world around them, not of accumulated stuff - it wasn't about possessing things - it was a taoist admiration of living in harmony with one's landscape or environment."
