Program Abstract: World-famous artist David Hockney invites the viewer to join him on a magical journey down a 72-foot long lengdary 17th-century Chinese scroll. As he unrolls the richly detailed painting, Hockney traces the Emperor Kangxi's grand tour of his southern domain.
Comparing the work with a Canaletto painting and a later Chinese scroll, Hockney spins a dazzling discourse on eastern and western perspective and thei relationship to his own artistic vision.
