Graduate Degrees Offered:

Please note: We DO NOT offer a PhD in Chinese or Japanese Language Pedagogy

Please keep these things in mind as you begin to prepare your application:

East Asian Languages and Cultures admits students only for Fall semester. We do not have Spring or Summer admission.
The Application deadline for International applicants is December 1st.
The Application deadline for Domestic applicants is January 15th.
Admissions decisions will be mailed at the beginning of March.
We do not accept revised versions of materials that have been submitted. Please carefully review and proofread your personal statement and writing sample before submitting.
A limited amount of financial aid is offered by EALC. We encourage applicants to investigate many financial aid options. You can find more information on funding options here.
To be considered for financial aid, International applicants must score at least the following on the TOEFL exam:
- 93 Internet Based Test (iBT)
- 580 paper based test

December 1:	Application deadline for International Students (to allow time for additional processing)
January 15:	Application deadline for Domestic Students (U.S. citizens and permanent U.S. residents)
February 1:	FLAS Fellowship Application deadline (U.S. citizens and permanent U.S. residents only)
February:	All complete application dossiers reviewed by the Graduate Admission Committee
March 1:	Letters sent, announcing the Committee’s decisions. Only acceptance letters will be sent by e-mail
April 15:	Decision letter due from the accepted applicant
June:	Tuition and fee costs announced by the Board of Trustees (see the Bursar's website for details).
July:	Information sent to help students prepare to come to Bloomington
Late August:	Orientation Week (meet with the Director of Graduate Studies, register, arrange for a student ID, a computing account, explore the library, tour the department facilities, etc.)
