There are 33,331 IU minority alumni living throughout the world.

13.9% of IU Bloomington student body is composed of minority students.

17% of IU Bloomington full-time instructional faculty and administrators are domestic minority (African American, Asian, Latino, or Native American).

5.7% of IU student body is composed of international students.

Of Indiana University's total Fall 2009 enrollment, 70 percent of the students are from the state of Indiana. All 92 counties in the State of Indiana are represented. Additionally, students from 49 states, Washington D.C., and 165 foreign countries are enrolled at IU campuses and make up 30 percent of the student population.

Kappa Alpha Psi, an African American fraternity, was founded at Indiana University in 1911.

Gamma Phi Omega, first Latina sorority chartered at Indiana University in 1991.

There are a variety of courses offered at IU--more than 5,000 each year--giving students the opportunity to study other cultures and languages in depth.

The Department of African American & African Diaspora Studies and the Program for Latino Studies underscore IU's commitment to research and scholarship in the study of minority cultures. An Asian American Studies Program is currently in the planning stage.
