Life Sciences

The College of Arts and Sciences is the home for much of the foundational research activity in the life sciences at Indiana University. The term "life sciences" means any science or field of study that contributes to the better health of living organisms, including humans, plants, and animals.

Life Sciences-IU STARS Biology Professor Yves Brun, left, is one of many members of the faculty at IU who mentor young scientists in their labs. One of Prof. Brun’s recent achievements is the discovery of what could be nature's strongest "super glue", produced by a hydrophilic bacterial strain, with a myriad of applications ranging from emergency wound-healing to mending damaged vessels at sea. With him in the photo above are students David Larson (center) and Aaron Hinz, both of whom joined his lab as freshmen, won scholarships and awards, and are currently in biology PhD programs.
