Dr. Patrick Bratlinger Honored With 2001 Distinguished Faculty AwardThe College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Association honored Dr. Patrick Bratlinger with its Distinguished Faculty Award for 2001 at the Annual Recognition Banquet in November at the Indiana Memorial Union. Dean Kumble R. Subbaswamy made the presentation.
The Distinguished Faculty Award recognizes Professor Brantlinger's outstanding contributions in the three primary areas of faculty work: research, teaching, and service. Dr. Brantlinger received his B.A. from Antioch College and both his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard. He came to IU in 1968 and is the Rudy Professor of English. His research interests include Victorian Studies, cultural studies, history of literacy and reading, aesthetics, and postcolonial studies. He is author or editor of more than 10 books and several dozen scholarly articles. Chair of the Department of English, Stephen Watt, stated, "Pat Brantlinger's scholarship is as vast and evocative as anyone's I know. His is a major voice, perhaps the major voice in Victorian studies in this country. Pat's writing on cultural studies and modernism is perhaps equally important. He epitomizes for me all that a scholar—and a colleague—should be." |
