WHERE IT'S SPOKEN:
  • Mainly in Eastern Africa (Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda), and in Central Africa
    (Rwanda, Burundi, and Democratic Republic of Congo)
WHAT'S OFFERED AT IUB:
  • Swahili is offered from first to third year levels and extends to 4th year depending on enrollment.
  • Elementary level is offered during the summer.
  • Swahili can be used to fulfill the foreign language requirement, the African Language Minor, and
    can count towards the African Studies Certificate.
  • KSwahili students are eligible for the Foreign Language Area Studies Fellowship (FLAS).
