Hazardous Materials Spill Reporting
General Requirements
When an accidental release of a hazardous substance, hazardous waste, oil, or “objectionable substance” occurs, and is in excess of the “reportable quantity”, a number of regulatory agencies must be notified. EHS will notify the regulatory agencies, but EHS must be notified immediately if such a spill occurs. Release into any element of the environment, i.e., air, water, soil, sewage systems, must be reported.

Keys to Compliance for Supervisors
- Report any Hazardous Materials spills or leaks immediately to EHS; if after normal working hours, notify IUPD
- Be aware of any materials you use that are considered “hazardous”, and are subject to any of the Spill Reporting regulations. EHS can assist you with this.
- Use only EHS-approved methods for disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
