University Human Resource Services
Food Safety and Food Service Regulations
General Requirements
Any organization serving food on campus must comply with a number of Indiana Food Safety Regulations. EHS’ Food Safety Specialists are state-licensed food inspectors, and, in that role, periodically examine each food establishment on campus. The Food Safety Specialists follow a standard state-provided protocol for the inspections. Food services must comply with the findings of these inspections.
Campus entities holding temporary events where food is served must obtain from EHS a Temporary Food Service Permit. Food must come from an approved vendor, known to prepare food in a safe and healthful manner. EHS maintains a list of local approved vendors.

Keys to Compliance for Supervisors
- If you supervise a food service on campus, you must make certain that the food service meets the Indiana Health and Safety codes; failure to do so can mean closing the service.
- If during an inspection, your facility fails to meet all requirements, you will be given a specified period of time to correct the shortcoming
- The EHS Food Safety Specialists can explain and assist with the correction of any citations.
- If your organization holds special events where food is served, you can obtain an application for a Temporary Event Permit at the EHS website, www.ehs.indiana.edu/forms.shtml.
