September 11 Introduction/Purpose of ETC IMU - Walnut Dawn Kutza

The purpose of ETC is to provide training that will allow you to improve your job effectiveness. And effectiveness on the job is linked to interpersonal skills as much as it is to technical skills. In this first session, participants will self-evaluate and challenge their ability to empathize, communicate, and build relationships with co-workers holding a diversity of personality styles.
In this session, participants will:

  • discover factors in the workplace that contribute to effectiveness
  • recognize behavioral preferences among  five  different personality types
  • identify areas for professional and personal improvement
  • create action plans and SMART goals
September 25 Employee Satisfaction & Engagement TBA Dawn Kutza

Job satisfaction is important not just because it boosts our work performance but also because it increases our quality of life. Many people spend so much time at work that when it becomes dissatisfying, the rest of their life soon follows.
In this course, we will:

  • asses our personal workplace satisfaction
  • examine the consequences resulting from high and low work satisfaction
  • explore a model for understanding workplace happiness
  • investigate ways our careers can inspire us
  • discuss how our individual and social needs, perceptions, and attitudes impact our work satisfaction
  • align our values, motivators, and strengths to increase job satisfaction
  • learn 7 key “ingredients” for a more satisfying and purposeful job
October 9 Demonstrating Professionalism & Building Rapport TBA Dawn Kutza

Building rapport and demonstrating professionalism are critical skills: a) to building relationships with others quickly, b) to gaining the trust and confidence of colleagues, customers, and your boss, c) to ensure effective communication is delivered and received, and d) to your own personal workplace success.
Specifically, in this seminar you will learn about the:

  • methods of rapport building, such as mirroring, reciprocity, and commonality
  • importance of first impressions and what they can do to enhance workplace relationships
  • essentials for maintaining rapport even in the most challenging situations
  • identifying characteristics of professionalism and how they contribute to building successful relationships and workplace success
October 23 Effective Communication Skills IMU - Maple Mary Ellen McCann

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • understand how one's communication style can impact the effectiveness of the communicator;
  • avoid and overcome common communication barriers;
  • learn ways to use language for clear communication, including giving verbal instructions to others.
November 6 Self-Esteem IMU - Walnut Dawn Kutza

Participants will:

  • learn why high self-esteem is important as it relates to occupational success;
  • learn how self-esteem is formulated;
  • recognize cognitive distortions that impact self-esteem;
  • be able to eliminate negative self-talk;
  • practice ways to increase self-esteem.
November 13 Taking Initiative TBA Martie Adler

In this highly interactive session we will define what taking initiative means, what it is, and what it is not.  We will also discuss the differences between initiative and reaction, and the connection to accountability.  You will leave this session with a number of different perspectives and the tools and skill sets to create a personal initiative development plan.

November 27 Assertiveness IMU - Walnut Dawn Kutza

There is a fine line between assertiveness and aggression:

In this session we will focus on:

  • assertive, non-assertive & aggressive styles of behavior;
  • learning the characteristics of assertive people;
  • speaking up, setting limits & saying no;
  • practicing assertive approaches to difficult situations.
December 4 Wellness in the Workplace IMU - Walnut Recreational Sports Team

We all want to feel our best, but often find it difficult to come up with a plan that works for us. This workshop will identify the essential elements of wellness and explore ways to make it happen.

In this session you will learn:

  • what levels of exercise are appropriate for you and your lifestyle;
  • your biggest barriers to fitness and most effective tools to overcome them;
  • some basic stretching you can do at your work area;
  • the elements of good nutrition;
  • how to recognize marketing food promises that are too good to be true;
  • ways to make eating on the go healthy and convenient;
  • practices of environment control both at work and at home.
December 18 Stress Management IMU - Walnut Deb Dunbar

Participants will:

  • understand the meaning of stress;
  • determine the major sources of stress one has on the job;
  • use strategies and a system to manage stress on a daily basis;
  • understand the impact of not managing stress effectively;
  • apply effective stress management principles.
January 8 Time and Priority Management TBA Mary Ellen McCann

In an age filled with computers, cell phones, iPhones, iPods , laptops, and day planners, time continues to be our most valuable asset.  The better we manage our time the more effective, productive and happy we are in our work and personal lives.  This seminar will help you identify your biggest time management barriers and also the most effective breakthroughs.

We will explore:

  • the facts of time;
  • your time management quotient;
  • the time management matrix;
  • time orientation and the brain;
  • the principles of time management;
  • top time management barriers and breakthroughs;
  • time management tools;
  • how to handle multiple priorities.
January 22 Conflict Resolution TBA Dawn Kutza

Conflict is an inevitable part of life. Yet, many of us de-test conflict because of poor past experiences -- hurt feelings, wounded relationships, tension permeating the office. In this seminar we will learn how to:

  • mentally prepare for confrontation;
  • hear others out when they are angry with us;
  • express ourselves even in our angriest moments.
February 5 Communicating Across Generations TBA Deb Dunbar

Currently, there are five generations in the workplace. Each generation is comprised of individuals who have a lot in common. Each has its own work ethic, values, norms, methods, and motivations. Attend this session and learn how to work effectively within and between generations.
Specifically we will focus on:

  • understanding the difference between generations;
  • exploring why there is so much confusion between the generations;
  • how to work effectively across generations.
February 19 Better Writing Mechanics TBA Dawn Kutza

Each time you put your thoughts into writing, you communicate something about your credibility and professionalism. This workshop is an excellent opportunity to brush up on those writing mechanics that communicate volumes about you. You will have a hands-on opportunity to improve the following important elements of writing:

  • common misspellings;
  • proofreading;
  • grammar;
  • punctuation;
  • adjusting to different audiences

It feels wonderful to send out a letter or email that you feel confident is PERFECT!

March 5 Career Development TBA Career Development Center (Jan Nickless)

Today's work culture calls for dynamic and successful strategies in managing our own careers. Explore the many models and choices available for self-assessment and job satisfaction.
Participants will:

  • identify interests, values and skills that transfer across jobs and career changes;
  • participate in owning career planning for self-management in work and family;
  • have access to resources and guides for defining their jobs, their concepts of success and failure, and their strength and weaknesses;
  • incorporate the core concepts of being resilient in each of our careers.
March 19 Dancing with Change TBA Martie Adler
 

This session offers a different way to look at dealing with and managing change. You will learn about moving through the challenges you face every day with a different perspective and insight. And you will be given tools and a model that can assist you in a response to change that serves you and the organization.

March 26 Give ’em the Pickle TBA Dawn Kutza
 

We have all heard, "The customer is always right," and "The customer is number one," but is that enough? Real customer service is an opportunity to connect with people, to brighten a day, to make a difference with the people who use your service or product. It's about giving them the PICKLE.

This session will discuss the four key principles that will keep your customers happy.

  • Service
  • Attitude
  • Consistency
  • Teamwork

We will also identify your primary customers and determine their expectations. Then, we can creatively explore the opportunities for improvement.

April 9 ETC Graduation Reception TBA EVERYONE!!


Attendance Requirement

Only one session may be missed without a make-up to remain eligible for the ETC Certificate of Completion. Two make-up sessions are permitted. Make-up classes are to be arranged through Kayla Shaw at or 812-855-9674.

 

Additional Elective Requirement

Each participant will take one Organizational Development course. A list of qualifying courses will be posted on the ETC Web-site each semester.

UITS Training Requirements

Each participant will choose two UITS IT Training & Education Workshops. Register through UITS at 855-7383 or online.

All of the above requirements must be completed in order to finish the program and receive the certificate. Please be aware of all of the requirements before registering for the program!
