JOB PURPOSE:
Maintains water quality systems and oversee pool operator staff. Performs necessary treatments and monitors equipment. Maintains records and prepares required reports.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain water quality systems to ensure compliance with state and federal standards.
Interacts with customers and responds to inquiries related to campus pools and water systems.
Leads, prioritizes, trains and assigns work for pool operator staff.
Performs visual inspections of water systems for problems; monitors pool equipment for damage and/or efficient operation and identifies appropriate corrective measures.
Performs equipment maintenance and repair. Calibrates pool equipment.
Tests water quality from routine and unscheduled sampling; makes chemical adjustments as necessary.
Maintains daily log of water samples and testing results; submits weekly samples to state Department of Health for tracking; serves as primary contact to troubleshoot and correct water quality problems.
Cleans water filters using hose, vacuum, and power washer.
Cleans outdoor fountains and strainers.
Vacuums pools using pool vacuum; drains pools when needed.
Tracks chemical usage and maintains MSDS and HAZMAT files.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of chemicals used and their reactions in water management systems.
Knowledge of pools and respective equipment and their mechanical operation.
Knowledge of or ability to learn word processing, spreadsheet, and data base software as well as e-mail utility.
Ability to observe & maintain safety precautions and OSHA compliance and to successfully complete required training programs.
Ability to effectively lead people and manage work simultaneously.
Ability to use basic hand tools, lubrication equipment, meters, electric hand tools, water tester, pool vacuum, power washer, and water test kits.
Ability to work in safe and efficient manner.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: Four years experience in large scale water maintenance systems.
Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by Indiana University. Ability to acquire and maintain Certified Pool Operator license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Spends time both indoors and outdoors with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distracting/uncomfortable noise levels. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
