Use of Social Security Numbers (SSN) in Benefit Plans

In 2005, the University Human Resource Services office arranged for Anthem to issue new ID cards that do not include SSNs. In keeping with this change, The Nyhart Company (administrator for the IU Tax Saver Benefit Plan) will soon require University ID numbers rather than SSNs for logging into employee accounts on the Nyhart Web page and for completing the TSB claim form. The university ID number is the 10-digit Employee ID number on the top left of the IU pay advice. It is the same as the PeopleSoft ID.

Nyhart’s change is expected by January 1, 2007. In the interim, employees who do not wish to include their full SSN when faxing or mailing claims to Nyhart may use the last four digits of their SSN.
