IU Bloomington ranked 11th nationally in 2008–09 in the
number of students studying abroad (2,028). For the first time
IU Bloomington ranked in the top 20 institutions for yearlong
programs, for semester programs, and for short-term programs.
The number of IU international students in the U.S. ranked the
Bloomington campus as 14th largest in fall 2009 according to the
Institute of International Education's Open Doors report. Overall
enrollment of international students at IU increased 6% since
2009 and almost 38% in five years.
IU has established or renewed major partnerships with 42 universities; among the new or renewed agreements were partnerships with O. P. Jindal Global University in India, Tyumen State University in Russia, and the University of Freiburg and the Free University of Berlin in Germany.
In 2010, eleven programs associated with IU received the promise of Title VI funding for area and global study centers, language centers, and language scholarships. The total commitment was about $17.6 million over four years.
