Digital Signage Costs

Annual costs

The annual fee per player is $125, which helps offset the support and maintenance charges.

IU units should also budget to replace the Digital Signage hardware. Computers should be replaced every three to four years, TVs/LCDs every five to seven years.

Initial set-up costs

Initial set-up costs include:

  • Hardware purchase
  • Hardware installation

IU units should also factor in staff time required to:

  • Learn the software
  • Continue to update content on digital signs
  • Provide technical support for hardware, software, and content publishers. A single technical contact who would interface with the IU digital signage support team is needed for each unit.

All hardware ordering instructions are posted on the Purchasing website at: http://www.iu.edu/~purchase/contracts/audiovisual/audiovisual.shtml
Hardware bundles range from $2,062.68 to $9,350 with an average price of $4,178.

The Bloomington campus hires installations in-house from Physical Plant. Most other campuses hire installation services from outside AV vendors.  Purchasing and the University Architect's Office will coordinate those efforts. Installation costs can include adding power and network connections, wall build out, etc.

Minimum new digital signage installation cost for all Indiana University campuses is $1,300. Note that installation costs may vary.

Quotes

"Total cost of SPEA Digital Signage solution (6 signs + 1 touchscreen sign, mounts, computers, FourWinds licensing, etc.) came in at about 1/3 the cost proposed two years ago, thanks to the IU/PAGR enterprise agreement with FourWinds."
