The Distinguished Professorship

The most prestigious academic appointment Indiana University can offer is a distinguished professorship. Nominations may be made by faculty, alumni, and students, among others. The rank of distinguished professor honors outstanding scholarship, artistic or literary distinction, or other achievements that have won signficant recognition by peers.

Indiana University has a long tradition of outstanding scholars, teachers, and researchers, A portion of these have been recognized by conferral of official titles, including distinguished professorships, titled and endowed chairs, and university professorships; collectively these professors are known as distinguished and titled professors.
