Lisa Bingham, IUB, participated in a working retreat on “Evaluating Court Alternative Dispute Resolution” convened by the Federal Judicial Center in Washington, DC on November 17-18, 2005. About 30 scholars, court administrators, and federal court judges attended the retreat for the purpose of developing a national research agenda on how the use of dispute resolution is affecting the administration of civil justice in the United States. Kirsten Grønbjerg, IUB, was the recipient of the 2005 Award for Distinguished Achievement and Leadership in Nonprofit and Voluntary Action Research from the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA). She received the award at ARNOVA’s annual conference, held in Washington, DC, November 17-19. The award for distinguished lifetime achievement is given annually for significant and sustained contributions to the nonprofit and volunteer action research field through research and leadership. Nominees must have made significant achievements in the field of nonprofit and voluntary action research or significant leadership achievements in the advancement and promotion of such research over an extended period of time. IPFW has worked with the Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance to open a school for native Japanese students, with Koichiro Otani, assistant professor at SPEA-IPFW, as its director. The school’s purpose is to teach Japanese students how better to keep up with their studies prior to their return home. Students from elementary through high school will attend classes for several hours each Saturday at the IPFW campus. Currently, those Japanese families in the Fort Wayne area have to drive to either Battle Creek or Indianapolis to attend a Saturday school. This new school program will serve Fort Wayne's growing Japanese community and also could attract more new Japanese businesses to the area. David Reingold, IUB, was invited by Abt Associates to
serve as a member the Technical Working Group for a multimillion-dollar
random assignment evaluation of the Youth Conservation Corps programs.
