The Center for Urban Policy and the Environment is pleased to announce that Dona Sapp has been appointed Chief Administrative Officer. Ms. Sapp has served as a senior policy analyst for the Center since 2000, where she has assisted nonprofit organizations and government agencies with program evaluations, survey design and analysis, and GIS-based spatial analysis. She recently worked with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, the Governor’s Commission for a Drug-Free Indiana, and Indiana’s Sentencing Policy Study Committee. Ms. Sapp has also completed studies of arts, culture, and other quality of life issues. As a Center analyst, she has worked with organizations such as the Arts Council of Indianapolis, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the Indiana Humanities Council, and the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations to address local and regional concerns for the state of Indiana. Prior to joining the Center, she served as the director of planning for the Indianapolis Public Schools. Ms. Sapp holds a bachelor’s and a master’s of planning degree from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, IUPUI. SPEA at IU Kokomo organized a leadership workshop for law enforcement officers. The workshop attracted both senior and junior officers in the police and sheriff departments in several counties. Topics covered at the workshop included: strategic envisioning and strategic corporate leadership, the dynamics of a good police officers, leadership development principles, leadership and homeland security, and motivation and becoming a transformational leader. Al Anderson, IUB, delivered a seminar on HIV Policy in the United States to staff of the Department of HIV/AIDS/STD Prevention in the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention on November 1. Chris Craft, IUB, participated in an expert panel at EPA Headquarters in Washington, DC, on November 1 and 2. The panel, consisting of ten wetland experts from around the country, is working with EPA's Office of Water to develop nutrient criteria for wetlands of the United States. The charge of the panel is to produce a guidance document to assist states and tribes with assessing nutrient condition of their wetlands. Beth Gazley, IUB, visited the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from September 8-18 to support development of its public administration and nonprofit management curricula. Gazley also gave a talk on effective boards of directors at the annual meeting of the SPEA Alumni Association on October 28.

Foundation Centennial Conference on Foundations and Education, in Palo Alto,
CA, November 9-11.
