Announcements

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday break we will publish the next SPEA@ Large on Friday, November 30th.

Jim Barnes, IUB, has been appointed to a National Academy of Public Administration panel that will assess the executive staffing of the Department of Homeland Security, focusing on identifying and offering remedies for management and administrative gaps that could arise during the forthcoming Presidential transition. The panel expects to conclude its work in February 2008. Barnes’ work on another NAPA panel focused on a system of Environmental Indicators concluded last month with the submission of a report to the Department of Interior, acting on behalf of a consortium of federal agencies.

Chris Craft, IUB, led a workshop on “Effective Proposal and Report Writing for Environmental Practitioners” held October 21-22, 2007, at the Korean Oceanographic Research and Development Institute, Ansan, Republic of Korea (ROK). Approximately 25 scientists from the ROK and China attended to learn the nuances of Western-style technical writing. Financial support for the workshop was provided by the United Nations (UN) Development Programme’s Global Environment Facilities and the UN Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem Project.
